LABEL - LABE-ELBE Adaption to flood risk

Recent floods in Germany, Czech Republic and Poland

The devastating floods in the summer and autumn of 2010 in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg, North Bohemia, and Poland make clear that the natural flood risks do not decrease. The research assumes that climate change will amplify the number of intense rain events in the future because of an increasing quantity of so called trough weather conditions in this area. Therefore, a sustainable adaptation of river-linked uses to flood risks is necessary -  LABEL contributes significantly to reach that goal in the Elbe catchment. Flood protection is an ongoing process, the results of INTERREG projects like LABEL or from previous projects ELLA and Oderregio must be implemented consistently and in long-term.
